Kayla Perkel, PhD.
Kayla earned her PhD in 2015 from the University of Guelph studying the metabolism of embryos and how it affects development. She has worked in fertility since 2012 and joined KARMA in 2014, becoming Lab Director in 2015.
Kayla is passionate about providing the highest standard of patient care and continually improving quality and safety in the lab.
Fariba Khosravi, PhD.
Fariba completed her PhD through Tehran University and Queen’s University. She has worked at clinics in Tehran (Iran), USA, and Canada. She is a published scientific author and currently reviews for The Journals of Andrology and Assisted Reproduction & Genetics.
Her interest is in the field of ovarian cryopreservation for oncology patients and finding new methods for sperm vitrification.
Anja Stojsin Carter, PhD.
Anja has been working in human ART since 2010; she has worked at fertility centres in Serbia, Spain, Finland, and Denmark. Anja completed her PhD in Reproductive Biology at the University of Guelph in 2016.
Her academic and clinical interests are in the hormonal mechanisms that optimize the chances for successful embryo development.
Sam Wake, MMedSci.
Samantha graduated from the University of Nottingham (UK) with degrees in Medical Physiology and Therapeutics (BSc) and Assisted Reproduction Technology (MMedSci). She has been working at KARMA since October 2017 in the Andrology and Embryology labs.
She particularly enjoys clinic coordination as well as patient education in fertility.
Sonja Swanson, MBS.
Sonja graduated from the University of Guelph in 2011 with her Masters of Biomedical Science with a specialization in Reproductive Biotechnology. She has worked at multiple fertility clinics in Ontario.
She is passionate about sperm biology and its impact on fertility, LGBT representation, patient safety, and fertility advocacy.
Moftah Abumeas, BSc.
Moftah graduated from Tripoli University (Libya) in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratories. He worked in Tripoli Infertility Centre beginning 2012 and did additional Andrology training in India in 2014. He came to Canada and joined KARMA in 2017.
He is fluent in Arabic and has interest in sperm cryopreservation and DNA fragmentation.
